BIOGRAPHY
Jonathan Frid has the dubious distinction of being the strangest teen idol in history. The Canadian born actor rose to fame as conflicted vampire, Barnabus Collins, in the supernatural soap opera "Dark Shadows." A combination of a movie-monster fixation in the late ’60s and afternoon access made "Dark Shadows" a favorite with the teen set, and Frid wound up on the covers of and in the pages of several teen magazines.

Frid began his acting career as a young man, with many stage roles and imprssive training. He is a graduate of The Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London as well as Yale's School of Drama (in directing.) He pursued several roles in television after the four-year run of "Dark Shadows," had has primarily appeared in theater since.

In the 1980s, Frid embraced his "Dark Shadows" fans, appearing at may of the ongoing "Dark Shadows" conventions. He deveopped several one-man shows including "Fridiculous" and "Jonathan Frid's Fools and Fiends."

WHERE IS HE NOW?
Jonathan Frid is semi-retired, and living in Canada. He revived his one-man show in 1998, bringing it to Long Island, In June of 2000, Frid returned to the stage in a Canadian production of "Mass Appeal."

Frid served in the Canadian Navy in World War 2

Frid almost gave up on his acting career, and planed ot become a teacher when he won the role of Barnabus Collins in 1967

•Barnabus was only supposed to appear in a few episodes of "Dark Shadows." When the ratings began to rise, Collins' role was expanded.
